Johannesburg Zoo

Cheers everyone!

We finally managed to go to Johannesburg Zoo after postponing it a dozen of times. I was so keen on going there because THERE ARE RED PANDAS THERE!!!!!!! It took us some effort to find them, but we saw like really everything about this zoo along the way. :) We are not huge fans of imprisoned animals but I simply had to see red pandas for the first time in my life! :) (Just to add - they have turtles as well!!!!!!!!)

P.S. Sorry for the reflections you get in some pictures. Glass sadly reflects light and that fact made my life a bit harder. (but the pandas made up for everything!!!! :) )

Apartheid Museum and Soweto

Time for our next post:

This trip I was exited about! We witness every day what of an multi colored, multi racial, multi everything South Africa is. The history of this country is very interesting, sad and shocking which is very well presented in the Apartheid museum. We weren't allowed to take any pictures inside the museum, so here are some pictures of the outside.

Apartheid Museum

With your entrance ticket you are assigned a color. You are either white or non- white and have to enter accordingly.

As a south african citizen your I.D would refer to your color. In the beginning as white/non-white, later it expanded from non-white to black/colored/asian/indian/etc.

there were also the ''chameleons''

Sneak peek!

Jo'burgs Skyline. View from the Museum.

South Africa's flag since 27th of April 1994
(in my opinion one of the prettiest flags of the world)

After our long and intensive visit of the museum we drove to Soweto and the Vilakazi Street. There we visited the Mandela House Museum. After having lunch we drove to the Orlando towers we could see from Vilakazi str.

FNB Stadium

You can see the bullet holes on the bricks of the house.

That's me! Just kidding! :( but it looked like fun!

Soweto streets

Actually, it was an impressive and very shocking day - lots of things to discuss, rethink, process,       ask, just not be able to comprehend, but what we agree on:

"Nothing is black or white.” Nelson Mandela

(we couldn`t find the kitschy quote about your loved ones all your life long etc. (I should have bought the damn postcard...  but we still like you a lot!! :P )

''Lion Park'' and ''Rhino and Lion Nature Reserve''

Hi everyone!

this time around we are sharing some of the pictures we took at the ''Lion Park'' and the ''Rhino and Lion Nature Reserve'' last weekend.

At the ''Lion Park'' we had the chance to pet lion cubs (one was more interested in eating Katrins hand, which was really funny, but not for her! ;p) and see white lions.

The ''Rhino and Lion Nature Reserve'' was bigger and our Land Rover Defender was the perfect car for that territory. (I, Luisa even had the chance to drive it, cool car!!) In this reserve you have the chance to see 3 out of the Big 5 (rhinos, buffaloes and lions) and many ostriches!

Both parks are located in the ''Cradle of Humankind'' northwest of Johannesburg.
